Neighborhood Night
Every weather-permitting Sunday afternoon we host games and snacks in our backyard for children from the neighborhood.
Raising children on the South Side isn’t easy: the area’s combination of poverty and crime rob our young folk of a childhood. Moreover, there are few supervised and free activities in the area—especially in the summer months. In Neighborhood Night we have Su Casa’s modest reply to this community-need. With the help of part-time volunteers, Su Casa hosts activities and snacks for the local youth (including Su Casa’s guests) every Sunday afternoon from 3-5 PM.
Like everything we do here, we can’t do it alone. Volunteers are needed for those afternoons to facilitate the activities and actually be present with the kids. That’s not all though. We also need volunteers’ suggestions for activities, donations of snacks and games, and help with getting the word out. When the Chicago winter forces everyone inside it takes a little while for Neighborhood Night to restart, so we need help with posting flyers and contacting community organizations, schools and churches to let them know that we’re back. Please contact the Volunteer Coordinator if you’d like to volunteer with us or the Outreach Coordinator if you’d like more information.
